Re: best closing song (not the encore) |
And speaking of crack:
"Day Job"
Recorded on
Dick's Picks, vol. 6
First performance: August 28, 1982 at the Oregon Country Fair Site, Veneta, Oregon. "Day Job" appeared as the second set opener, preceding "Man Smart, Woman Smarter." "West L.A. Fadeaway" also appeared for the first time at this show.
Hunter, in his Box of Rain, notes that
"This song was dropped from the Grateful Dead repertoire at the request of fans. Seriously."

Re: best closing song (not the encore) |
Once ,I got invited back stage ,and I met Jerry ,face to face ,but I felt very unwell so close by and I left ,not feeling that good being around the rest of the crew ,there !Afterwards ,I learned Jery was using heroin, and that ,to me ,explain the upmost unwellness I felt near him .

what year was this that you met Garcia?
chasing the dragon doesn't exactly lend itself to putting out real good vibes...

Hmmmmmmm |
I met Jerry once and like skies, I don't remember any specifics.
But it might have been on Tuesday, June 28th, 1988 at the Old Bryan Inn in Saratoga Springs, NY on Maple Avenue just off of Route 50. I bought him a beer, when the waiter brought it to him he looked at me, raised the glass and in that unforgettable high, silvery elfin voice said "Hey, thanks man. You comin' to the show?"
I said "You're welcome and yes, I'll be there."
He responded "Alright, see you there, thanks again man."
That was it....
